Why Do You & I Need God ?

This is a basic and fundamental question of life!

Very simply, we need God because without Him we cannot be fully Human

If you are a complete atheist and do not believe in God, just stop reading - this will make no sense to you at all.  But, if you do believe that there is a God who created everything you may want to keep reading.

If you do, believe in God that is, then the next step is to consider the possibly that the Creator God has something to say to us as part of His creation.  He does and He did !  Speak that is.  The next step would be to question why a God who is powerful enough to create the whole universe, the earth and everything in it, would create evil (i.e. murder, disease, rape, natural disasters, etc...)?  It does not take a "rocket scientist" to figure out that something is broken and that this is not the way it should be.  You are right!  It is not suppose to be this way.  God did create everything perfect without all of the evil we know and see around us today.

The next question would then be, what happened or what went wrong?  When God created man and woman, He made them in His image and likeness.  He made them perfect, loved them and had a perfect relationship with them.  Why did He make them?  Because, the very nature of love is life and relationship!  When a man and a woman love each other, the natural by-product of that love is marriage, new life and children.  Remember we were created in His image and likeness.  The one thing that is essential for true love and real relationship to exist is choice.  One has to voluntarily choose to be in a relationship - it cannot be forced; that would not be love.  So, when God created mankind He had to give them the capacity to choose to have a relationship with Him or not.

Well... I guess you know what happened?  Our forefather (and mother) chose to leave the relationship with God and do things their own way - we call these forefathers Adam & Eve.  God, being true to His nature and what love demands, allowed man and woman to break relationship with Him and go their own way.  When Adam and Eve broke their relationship with God, they lost their capacity to truly be good, to be holy and to be perfectly loving as they were originally created.  Their ability to be perfect in every way was totally dependent on their sharing life with their Creator God, in sharing in His divine likeness, His divine energies if you will.  With this choice to leave the relationship and do things their way, they lost that divine likeness that they shared with God.  From that point on, all of mankind, and all of the created order, was corrupted and subject to decay.  We call this corruption and decay sin and evil.  We are all now children of our forefather and mother, Adam & Eve, and we have inherited this broken relationship from them, just as we have inherited many of their physical traits.

The ultimate effect of this breach in our relationship with God, was that mankind no longer knew how to get back into a relationship with God or even how to approach Him.  We can see throughout human history and throughout the many thousands of religions, that man has been trying to figure out a way back to God on his own; through his own effort and work, in trying "to be good enough," etc...  This has been, and continues to be, all in vain and totally a futile effort.  We cannot be good enough on our own - you and I need God's help!

God in His great love for us as His children was the One who needed to provide the way back for us.  He was only One who fully understood mankind's problem and, therefore was, and is, the only One who could provide the solution for us.  He had to fix the problem Himself.  He did!

This is where Jesus Christ comes in !!
